Baked Apples with Sweet Cream

This is a classic French Quarter dessert.

For 4 portions:

4 apples

About 8 tablespoons brown sugar

Cinnamon

Butter

Cream:

6 - 8 ounces heavy cream

About 2 teaspoons sugar with a teaspoon or so of water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Core apples and peel the top inch or so. Set apples in a baking pan. I use an 8” square pan. Spoon brown sugar on top of apples and down into the core.<br>

Sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with butter.

Bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees or until tender.

Meanwhile make a simple syrup of sugar and a tiny bit of water.

Heat to dissolve the sugar. Then blend the syrup into the cream and add vanilla extract.

When the apples are done, serve warm or even room temperature with the sweetened cream, in individual bowls.
