1
1/2 ounce Bourbon whiskey
1/2 teaspoon Angostura Bitters
teaspoon sugar
Maraschino cherries
lemon peel
ice
a splash of water or club soda
Using an old-fashioned glass, (wide, low glass) drop in a couple
of sugar cubes or a teaspoon of sugar, add about a half teaspoon
of Angostura, then take a slice of lemon peel, rub the rim of the
glass with the outside of the peel, and drop the peel into the glass.
Now pour in about a half teaspoon of maraschino cherry syrup, (from
the jar of cherries ) and mash this up with a wooden "muddler”
or wooden spoon until the sugar is dissolved. Now add a liberal
shot of Bourbon and stir with plenty of ice and a little water (most
people prefer club soda) Drop a cherry into the glass and serve.
I recently discovered that the real recipe for an Old Fashioned
calls for orange rather than lemon.
